Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information (PCSTI) is the state scientific institution founded in 1957. Its main goal consists in information support for science, production, management, small business, technology and innovation activity and also for development of scientific products market. PCSTI is the part of Russian Association of information resources for scientific and technical development (Rosinformresurs) of the Department of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation. This is one of the biggest and stable information centers in Russia.

The Center is the main operative source of scientific, technical, economical, financial and production information. More than 1000 enterprises and organizations in Perm, Perm region and other Russian regions are constant customers of Perm Information Center.

The Center provides a variety of services, including library and information services on required subjects; examination and preparing applications for trade marks, prospective inventions, product samples; development of investment projects, business plans, management structures and systems; providing progressive technologies; analysis, estimation and development of investment projects and offers; development and installation of integrated information systems; publishing, polygraphic and educational services. The newest activities include the estimation of intellectual property and proprietary interests on them.

The information reference fund of Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information continually increases. It contains (on paper and electronic devices) more than 12 million copies of Russian and foreign literature and documentation. Among them are different books, magazines, catalogues, price-lists; state standards (GOSTs), branch standards (ОSTs), sanitary codes and regulatoins (SNIPs), NPBs and other normative documents; Russian and foreign patents on paper and compact discs; information editions, electronic libraries of normative documents, designing documentation for non-standardized equipment etc. The fund is always open for clients. Every day the library and other departments of Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information serve about 200 specialists.

For more than 6 years Perm CSTI closely cooperates with Specialized Information Center Fiz- Karlsruhe (Germany), providing its clients with the access to more than 200 databases of the biggest international network of scientific information STN International. The authorized marketing agency Fiz-Chemie was established in 1999 on the base of PCSTI. The main activity aspect of this agency is information distribution from databases of Berlin Specialized Chemical Center.

Educational activity of PCSTI information includes training, qualifying and certificating of workers in more than 60 professions; qualifying of management, engineering and financial personnel; training on accidents prevention and labor safety; organizing scientific conferences and seminars.

Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information possesses modern technologies and means of data collection, processing, keeping and distribution, high speed access to Internet and international network of scientific information STN International and Fiz-Chemie. PCSTI cooperates with central structural and regional information centers included in Russian unified information network. Research, analysis and implementation of information and progressive technologies are conducted in research laboratories of Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information. More than 120 highly qualified specialists serve the clients efficiently. The Scientific Council coordinates Perm Information Center.

The Regional Information and Investment Center (RIIC) was organized on the base of PCSTI.

Dr. Aleksandr Trusov heads Perm Center of Scientific and Technical Information from 1998. In 2001 by the order of the Department of Industry, Science and Technology PCSTI has been acknowledged as the leading information center in the Privolgsky Federal District.
